REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent, Teaching and Learning & School Principal

GRADE LEVEL: Multiple (K-5)

WORK CALENDAR: 210 Days (11 Month)


  • Three or more years of exemplary teaching experience
  • Must hold a Master's degree from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university
  • Willingness to seek Educational Leadership Certification
  • Possess a Coaching Endorsement or willingness to enroll in a Coaching Endorsement Program
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills


  • Experience in the development, preparation and presentation of professional development for adult learners
  • Strong leadership skills and experience as a teacher-leader
  • Experience in analyzing student performance data
  • Experience in differentiated instruction in a standards-based curriculum
  • Strong understanding of high leverage and evidence-based practices
  • Hold a Specialist's degree from a Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university



The duties and responsibilities of the academic coach of a school system are such as those in the list below, but they may be increased, decreased, and otherwise modified

  1. Improve student achievement and the instructional program by providing support for teachers by planning, collaborating, organizing, mentoring and facilitating change.
  2. Maintains and provides knowledge of appropriate standards, content, pacing, materials, and resources to enhance teaching and student learning.
  3. Disaggregate and analyze data to assist data teams in the interpretation to measure and improve student achievement and/or program effectiveness.
  4. Identification of the schools' teaching and learning needs, barriers, and weaknesses by analyzing student data, as well as organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers to refine their knowledge and skills.
  5. Primary support for teachers will include, but is not limited to, in-class coaching, observing, and modeling of instruction strategies, guiding teachers in analysis of student work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology and co-planning with teachers.
  6. Maintain working knowledge of and facilitate the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the diverse needs of students and their learning goals.
  7. Design and deliver professional development needed to implement the District and School Improvement Plans including grade level and individual professional goals, as related to student achievement.
  8. Establish, maintain, and enhance effective communication with administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders concerning academic initiatives within the schools.
  9. Model lessons, promote reflections, and offer insights for the enhancement of teaching-learning situations.
  10. Demonstrate appropriate use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction and student use of technology, through modeling, training and professional growth.
  11. Facilitate peer observation and coaching to improve teacher effectiveness.
  12. Help teachers and staff interpret and use student data to guide instruction.
  13. Participate in committees, as appropriate/needed.
  14. Serves on District and School Improvement planning committees and supports the implementation process.
  15. Works with local school subject area contacts/coordinators and department chairs as needed to assist with instructional planning.
  16. Assist teachers to utilize state, county, and local assessment data to improve instruction.
  17. Provides a link between local school staff and district support staff in areas related to instruction and curriculum.
  18. Participates in all required professional development to remain current on best instructional practices.
  19. Demonstrates the ability to maintain a positive professional working relationship with others.
  20. Establishes and maintains confidential relationships with teachers.
  21. Communication with supervisor and site administration through a weekly/log of activities.
  22. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  23. Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding students and school system affairs.
  24. Works effectively and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and staff.
  25. Performs all duties in a timely and effective manner.
  26. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  27. Maintains a professional appearance, as appropriate for job responsibilities.
  28. Complies with state and local laws and policies, including faculty/staff handbooks.
  29. Performance will be evaluated annually.
  30. Performs all other duties as requested by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning or Principal.
