QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Commercial Driver's License with P and S Endorsement

2. Minimum of 18 years of age

3. Complete a yearly physical and submit to random drug testing


REPORTS TO: Transportation Director


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of the school bus driver are such as those in the list below, but they may be increased, decreased, and otherwise modified

  1. Maintains Commercial Driver's License with P and S Endorsement

  2. Complies with all traffic laws as they relate to the operation of a school bus

  3. Attends all in-service training programs

  4. Conducts daily safety inspection of the bus and has bus routinely inspected

  5. Fuels and checks the oil level in their assigned bus as needed

  6. Maintains a clean bus at all times which includes being swept and washed as needed

  7. Reports mileage to transportation director at the beginning of each school year

  8. Drives the bus to the bus maintenance shop for servicing and repairs as needed

  9. Reports any accidents to the transportation director's office and superintendent's office immediately

  10. Secures a substitute driver from the approved list of substitutes or calls the transportation director for assistance when unable to drive route

  11. Selects a safe location for the bus to make stops along route

  12. Arranges the schedule for route so as to arrive at each stop at the same time each day

  13. Maintains a current list of children riding the bus and provides a copy of the list to the transportation director

  14. Uses language free from profanity, sarcasm, or ridicule at all times

  15. Assumes complete charge of the bus

  16. Refrains from the use of tobacco on the bus
  17. Deals with students in a friendly but firm manner at all times

  18. Reports discipline problems to the principal of the school to which the student attends

  19. Assures teachers have trip rosters filed at the school and with the driver for each field trip or activity

  20. Assures trip maps are on file at the school from which the trip originated on each bus
  21. Conducts evacuation drill twice yearly

  22. Exhibits courtesy and a professional attitude at all times in dealing with the board, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public

  23. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance

  24. Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding students and school system affairs

  25. Works effectively and cooperatively with administrators, teachers, and staff

  26. Performs all duties in a timely and effective manner

  27. Effective oral and written communications

  28. Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities

  29. Complies with state and local laws and policies

  30. Performance will be evaluated annually

  31. Performs all other duties as requested by the transportation director and/or superintendent
